Possible Scenarios By Sofia Podestà
Sofia Podestà is a self-taught photographer based in Rome, Italy. Her life is divided between studies, where she just graduated in Art History and Photography and photography itself. Her works are mostly focused on her travels and places she likes to visit. She wants to recreate a deep connection with landscapes and to discover new points of view inside the daily life. Through landscape, she feels free to tell stories and to express her most profound states of mind.
With the series "Possible scenarios" she confronts us with the powerful and threatening presence of nature.
"Possible scenarios" is the story of a man who wanders aimlessly until he meets a forest. Once he entered, however, he is lost: a sense of vertigo, due to the labyrinthine space in which he finds himself, assails him. However, he continues to move forward slowly, finally managing to get out and find his way back.
"This photographic series was born soon after completing my university
studies. After months of stress and worries, I escaped from Rome, the city
where I live, to leave, as every year, for Cortina, a town in the Dolomites. In
those days I felt a sense of peace and freedom that I had not felt for a long
time, which allowed me to finally concentrate on my photographs.
Finding myself in these huge spaces, completely covered by snow and
fog has stimulated my imagination so much, I have returned to breathe
freely. I love the dark atmosphere and the low clouds that hide the
landscape, because they allow creating in my mind a thousand Possible
The images of this series convey to us the signs of a profound mystery, of secrets that can't be revealed, of bonds from which we can not grasp all the connections. We as well as Sofia, are looking for a meaning that escapes, but that is already here before our eyes.
